Berkshire Downs & Chilterns Golden Retriever Club

History of the Club

The Berkshire Downs and Chilterns Golden Retriever Club was founded in 1978 by a small group of enthusiasts from the five counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxford, Hertfordshire and Hampshire, an area later extended to include Middlesex and Wiltshire. Membership is not restricted to any geographic area. Our first show was held in November of 1978, our first Championship show in 1981 and our first Field Trial in 2001. The objectives of the club are to benefit the welfare of Golden Retrievers and further educate its members in the management, training, showing , working, and every aspect of Golden Retrievers. There is a strong emphasis on Working tests with at least 2 and usually 4 tests per annum being run throughout the club's history. At least one of these days has included a training session in the afternoon. Due to requests from those attending, we intend to run two "Beginners Days" in 2002.
